PHOTO ARCHIVING, ENHANCEMENT, REPAIRS & RESTORATIONS
FILM PHOTO DIGITAL ARCHIVING
Film photo archiving service is for those that have large quantities of film photos and need them scanned into digital form for archiving on CD, DVD, Thumbdrive or External Hard Drive.
Depending upon the number of photos you have to archive the fee for this service is $1.00 per scanned photo with a $30 minimum.
All scanned film photos will be converted into the TIFF format with a resolution set to 300 DPI for final archiving.
The TIFF format is the highest quality digital format which will produce the best prints. The TIFF format is difficult to display on some computers due to the large file sizes and large amount of computer memory needed to read and display these image files. The client will have the option of having the TIFF images converted into JPG copies and put onto separate CDs or DVDs for viewing on the standard Personal Computer or Laptop. The client must supply the discs or hard drives that the images will be archived on.
Panoramic photos or large framed images that cannot be scanned will need to be photographed in order to archive them digitally. There is a $50 minimum for high resolution digital photographic archiving.
Fees listed for the scanning and Archiving service does not include photo repair or enhancements.
For photo repairs, enhancements or restorations see below for more details.
FILM & DIGITAL PHOTO REPAIR, ENHANCEMENT & RESTORATION SERVICE
Photographic Repair and Enhancement service is for clients that have digital images in need of enhancement and older film photos that are damaged or degraded and need restoration work done to them. This service covers everything from simple color corrections and touchups to the repair of torn and water damaged photos.
Below is a price breakdown for the most commonly requested photo repair services;
Color corrections, sharpening & shadow-highlight enhancements of both film & digitally taken photos: $10.00 per photo.
Film Photo Scratch & Tear removal: $20.00 for single scratches or small tears. $50.00 for multiple scratches or large tears.
Film Photo Reconstruction of torn photos with missing pieces: $100.00 (Please note that if the missing piece is part of a face or other important object in the image a $30 per object surcharge will apply if facial or object reconstruction is required).
Film Photo Water Damage Restoration: This type of damage is the most difficult to repair. Minor water damage that is contained to a small area of the photo and does not require reconstruction of a face or other important object in the photo is a flat $100. If the photo is severely water damaged or has parts missing such as faces or other important objects the final fee could range between $300 and $1000. If faces are completely destroyed a second photo of the person in the original photo may be needed as source material for the reconstruction.
Enlargement of Film & Digitally taken photos: $20.00 (Please note that the maximum enlargement size will be limited by the quality of the original photo. Digitally taken photos will be limited by the original DPI that they were taken at. Digitally taken photos that are enlarged more than 5 times their original size will suffer degradation in overall quality and experience a loss of sharpness. Film photos may need other repairs or enhancements before they can be enlarged).
Please note that the repair and restoration fees listed above for film photos only cover photos than can be scanned within the margins of 8.5 X 11 inches. There is an additional $50.00 surcharge for panoramic photos or photos that are larger than standard.
For commercial clients that may have large quantities of photos I am negotiable depending upon the quantity and amount of enhancement required.
A 20% deposit is required for all Photo Restorations before work begins, payable by Check, PayPal or cash if done in person. When the work is finished a low resolution proof image will be sent to the client by email for inspection. When the final image is approved by the client the final payment will be due in cash if the image is being hand delivered or by Check or PayPal if the image is being emailed in digital format.
There is an additional charge for clients choosing to have their finished images reprinted.
Reprint prices are listed below:
2 Wallet photos sized at 2X3 inches for $10.
Postcard prints sized at 4X6 inches for $5.00 each.
2 Medium prints sized at 5X7 inches for $15.
Large prints sized at 8X10 inches for $15.00 each.
Extra large 11X14 and 13X19 inch prints for $30.00 each.
All photo prints are unframed. Client will have the option of ordering 8X10, 11X14 and 13X19 prints with basic black matting for an additional $20 per photo.
Giclee prints on stretched canvas from 8X10 to 40X60 inches ready to be hung on the wall are available by special price quote.
If the client wishes to have their own prints made the client can receive their images on CD for an additional $10.00
No extra charge for images that are emailed to the client in digital format or if the client provides their own CD or other USB Device to store the image on.
Below are some samples of restoration and enhancement:
In this first example a small wallet sized photo was damaged by a client attempting to create a collage.
Below is the same photo repaired and enhanced by combining it with another photo supplied by the client. It was then enlarged to be reprinted as an 8 X 10 on high gloss photo paper. This was an $120 repair plus $15 for the reprint.
This next sample is a wallet sized photo with minor water damage. Its lamenation is also wrinkled and peeling.
Below is the same photo with the wrinkles and water damaged removed. It was enlarged to be reprinted as a 5 X 7 on high gloss photo paper. This was a $120 repair plus $15 for the reprint.
This next photo only required simple enhancement and enlargement. It was originally a 4 X 6 with a dull finish and poor contrast.
Below is the same photo enhanced and enlarged so that it could be reprinted as an 8 X 10 on high gloss photo paper. This was a $30 enhancement plus $15 for the reprint.
In this next example a canvas painting was torn in half leaving only the woman intact. The client supplied me with an old photo as reference in order to reconstruct the missing half of the canvas.

Below is the finished reconstruction. It was reprinted as an 11 by 14 inch on matte paper. This was a $130 repair plus $30 for the larger than normal reprint.
In this next example a 32 inch long panoramic photo of a Navy Graduation Class from 1942 was badly damaged from being rolled up too tightly. (Due to it's size only the center portion is displayed here)
Here is the photo restored and it was reprinted on premium luster photo paper. (Due to it's size only the center portion is displayed here) This was a $500 repair plus $100 for the special reprint.
This final example shows an 8 X 10 family photo with extreme damage and major tearing. Because the client's head in the original photo was destroyed by water damage he had to supply a separate photo of himself alone to use as a base to restore the family portrait.
Below is the newly restored version with the family from the original damaged photo combined with the substitute photo provided by the client. It was reprinted as another 8 X 10 ready to be framed. This was a $300 repair and enhancement plus $15 for the reprint.
