DVD, VHS Tape & Camcorder Video Conversion Service
VHS & Camcorder Tape conversion to MP4 File
VHS Tape & Camcorder video tape conversions start at $20 per hour of actual recorded time on the original tape.
The original tape recording will be converted to an uncompressed MP4 digital video file in the standard 640x480 screen resolution with a minimum video bit rate of 2500 kbps and an audio bit rate of 192 kbps with a 48 khz sampling rate.
These bit rates will have the same quality as a home DVD recorder with CD quality sound.
This format will be the master file that can be used for production of DVDs if needed.
The client will also receive a compressed M4V file that will be playable on other media devices.
If needed the contrast, brightness, hue and color saturation can be adjusted to compensate for tape degradation but the overall quality of the video and audio will be dependent upon the quality of the original tape recording.
If you need the recorded video edited for content or to reduce playback time an additional $20 per hour will apply.
The finished MP4 files can be stored on a USB Thumb-drive or external computer hard-drive. The client must provide the storage medium in order to receive the finished files.
Note: Due to the varying formats of Camcorder brands and models on the market the client will need to provide the original camcorder that made the recording in order to insure proper playback quality of the tape that is being converted.
The same will be required if VHS tapes being converted were originally recorded in the S-VHS format.
DVD conversion to VOB, DV Stream, MPEG or uncompressed MP4
I also offer DVD video data extraction if you have DVDs that are damaged and not playing well in your DVD player.
The symptoms of a damaged DVD are image freezing and or block pixel distortion. Sometimes DVD players will display and error code if the DVD cannot be played at all.
If this is the case with your DVDs I might be able to extract the video data files from the disk in their original VOB format and burn them onto a new DVD.
DVD video data extractions start at $50 per DVD if you only need them burned onto a new DVD with no further editing or conversions.
If you need the content of the DVD converted into a basic MPEG, DV Stream, or uncompressed MP4 this service starts at $20 per hour of recorded time on the original DVD.
An additional $20 per hour will apply if the DVD needs to be edited for content or to reduce playback time.
Please note that my video conversion service is only for home movies or movies that you own the copyrights to.
I cannot legally extract or copy commercial movies.
Glossary definitions;
VOB: Short for Video Object. This is the standard recording container format for DVDs. It contains the Video and Audio as an MPEG2 file.
MPEG: Short for Motion Picture Experts Group. This is the standard format for all digital video and audio. MPEG2 is the basic standard for commercial DVD movies and consumer grade DVD recorders. A basic MPEG2 cannot be played in a DVD player by itself. It first has to be encoded into a VOB in order to be compatible with DVD players. In order for the MPEG2 to be playable on the computer or in a digital media player it has to be converted into an MPEG4, also known as an MP4 or M4V. Some newer media players can play MPEG2 if they have the proper media software.
DV Stream: Short for Digital Video Stream. This is the primary format for digital camcorders as well as professional video editing devices. Unlike the VOB it is not compressed and therefore is not compatible for use on a DVD. It is also very difficult to play on media devices due to its high bit rate and large file size. DV Streams can be 5 to 10 times larger than a VOB file. This format is only recommended for archival use if you want to preserve every detail of the recording. VOBs, MPEGs and MP4s can be converted into DV Streams if you want to edit them with extreme precision but they are difficult to re-encode back into VOBs or MPEGs without some loss of quality.
